CLOSING DATE

Closing date for Submissions is Wednesday 26 August 2026.

Who May Enter

The Awards welcome entries from qualified lawyers, barristers, in-house counsel, legal executives and allied legal professionals practising in New Zealand. Entries may be submitted by individuals, teams, firms or third parties.

Eligibility period

All entries must relate primarily to work undertaken, completed or materially advanced between:
1 Jan 2025 and 30 April 2026

Entry Requirements

To ensure clarity and fairness, entries should be focused and concise, with a recommended length of 1,000 to 1,500 words. Entrants should clearly address:

  • The nature and context of the work or achievement

  • The challenges encountered

  • The strategic approach and execution

  • The outcomes achieved relative to these challenges

  • The specific contribution of the entrant

Supporting Material

Relevant supporting materials such as client testimonials, outcome summaries or media links may be included but should be proportionate and directly related to the entry. Judges value substance over volume and are not expected to review extensive appendices.

Judging Process

All entries will be assessed by an independent panel of senior leaders in the profession, who will evaluate submissions based on consistent criteria emphasising insight, effectiveness and impact. Judges declare and manage any conflicts of interest to maintain impartiality. The judging process may include multiple stages, including initial eligibility screening, shortlisting and final assessment.

Notification and Requests

Entrants shortlisted for an award may be invited to provide additional information or clarification to support the judging process. Notifications of shortlisting will be communicated by email.

Confidentiality and Use of Submissions

Confidential or sensitive information can be anonymised or summarised. All information provided will be treated with strict confidence and used solely for the purpose of judging and promotion of the Awards with entrant consent.

Multiple Entries and Fees

Entrants may submit multiple entries where relevant. There is no entry fee for the New Zealand Legal Excellence Awards.

Language

Entries must be submitted in English.
